1. Entry requirement — MDAC

MDAC (Malaysia Digital Arrival Card)

Grab is the core app for a Malaysia trip. It operates in major areas across the country, including Kuala Lumpur (KL), Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu, and Malacca. Rides, food delivery, grocery delivery, and payments are all handled in one app.

GrabCar: standard car — often safer and cheaper than a metered taxi. Taking Grab from KLIA (Kuala Lumpur International Airport) into the city typically saves 30–50% compared to an airport taxi.
GrabFood: food delivery, covering thousands of restaurants in KL and Penang. Order local Malaysian food too — nasi lemak, char kway teow, bak kut teh, and more.
GrabMart: instant delivery from convenience stores and supermarkets — get items quickly after you arrive.

Tip: for short trips within George Town, Penang, inDrive can sometimes be cheaper than Grab.

Touch 'n Go eWallet

Malaysia's #1 e-wallet — foreigners can sign up with just a passport. It launched in 1996 for highway toll payments and is now used across shopping, dining, and transport.

Where it works: over 95% of Malaysian merchants, automatic highway toll payments, KL's MRT/LRT/bus/monorail, parking, convenience stores, restaurants, night markets, and more.
Top-up: top up in-app with an international credit card (Visa/Mastercard); cash top-ups are also available at convenience stores (7-Eleven, MyNews).
Signing up as a foreigner: download the app → enter your passport details → verify your identity → start using it. Foreign accounts have a monthly top-up limit.
Transit convenience: one tap pays for the MRT or LRT — no need to queue for a ticket.
Tip: it's accepted at large malls like KLCC (in front of the Petronas Twin Towers), along Bukit Bintang, and at Mid Valley Megamall.
