eSIM reinstall

TL;DR

  • Travel eSIM (data plans) are often one-time install / one-time profile—deleting usually means no reinstall.
  • Carrier eSIM (home line) may be transferable via iPhone/Galaxy transfer or carrier procedure.
  • Conclusion: Delete only as a last step; if you plan to change devices, check provider/carrier transfer/reissue policy first.

1) Why reinstall often isn’t allowed

Travel eSIMs are usually designed so the QR (or activation code) is valid only once. This is for security and fraud prevention; many providers limit re-download.

2) When reinstall/transfer is possible

(A) Carrier eSIM (home line)

  • iPhone: Apple describes eSIM transfer/activation (Quick Transfer, carrier activation, etc.).
  • Galaxy: Samsung may allow eSIM transfer in SIM manager if device/version/carrier support it.

(B) Travel eSIM with “reissue/reinstall” support

  • Some providers support reissue (new QR) or reinstall via support.
  • Check the purchase page for “reinstall / multi-device / transfer supported.”

3) When reinstall/transfer is difficult

  • One-time QR travel eSIM (most plans)
  • User deleted the eSIM (many policies: no recovery)
  • Transfer to different OS/device type (e.g. phone ↔ tablet) restricted
  1. Don’t delete—keep the line off (disabled).
  2. Keep order number, QR, activation code, SM‑DP+ info.
  3. Ask the provider “Can I change device / reinstall?”
  4. Only after they say yes, proceed with transfer/reissue.

5) If you deleted by mistake

  • Check provider policy first; some allow reissue.
  • If not, you may need to buy again.
