What is a carrier lock?
A SIM lock restricts a phone to a particular carrier. It is sometimes called a country lock, but is not a setting for choosing your travel country. Even an eSIM-capable phone may reject another provider’s travel eSIM if locked.
Check on iPhone
Open Settings → General → About → Carrier Lock. No SIM restrictions means the phone is unlocked.
If another message appears or the status is unclear, check with the carrier that sold the phone.
Check on Android
The method varies by manufacturer, model and carrier. Do not expect a universal lock label. Ask your original carrier or seller whether another provider’s eSIM is allowed. Have the exact model number and purchase country ready.
If your phone is locked
Follow the locking carrier’s or seller’s unlock procedure. The esimoa app cannot unlock it. Eligibility and processing time vary; do not assume it unlocks automatically after a fixed number of days.
Get carrier guidance before resetting the phone or deleting an eSIM. Once unlocked, follow iPhone setup or Android setup.
