Morocco's metered taxis (small red "petit taxis" and large green "grand taxis") are prone to meter tampering and overcharging, but with Careem the fare is confirmed before you go, so you can use it worry-free. Options include Careem Car (standard sedan), Careem Bike (motorbike), and Careem Van (minibus). Register a card in advance for cashless travel, and your driver and route are logged in real time in the app. Hailing a Careem near Marrakech's Jemaa el-Fnaa square or the souks (markets) lets you avoid touts and unofficial guides.

Save Morocco's key sights offline — Marrakech's Jemaa el-Fnaa square, Koutoubia Mosque, Saadian Tombs, and Bahia Palace, Fez's medina (a maze of alleys), the blue town of Chefchaouen, Essaouira's coastal fortress, and the entrance to the Merzouga desert. Fez's medina is one of the most complex alley networks in the world, easy to get lost in even with GPS. Before you go, it's essential to separately save the coordinates of your accommodation (a riad), the tanneries, and landmarks like the Bou Inania Madrasa. Also save Chefchaouen and Erfoud (the desert departure point) offline.
💡 Fez medina tip: Fes el Bali (the old city) consists of more than 9,000 alleys. Even Google Maps navigation gets it wrong sometimes, so hire an official guide or use the map provided by your accommodation alongside it.
