Auf einen Blick
How to compare eSIM plans by speed, data limit, and coverage.
TL;DR
- Check data amount and high-speed vs throttled policy (even “unlimited” may throttle after a cap).
- Check supported countries match your trip and speed (4G/5G, any cap).
- Start time (purchase/install vs first local connection) and reinstall allowed are also important.
1. Data amount and limits
- High-speed data: How many GB at full speed (4G LTE)?
- After that: “Unlimited” often means throttled (128 kbps–1 Mbps).
- Daily cap: e.g. 500 MB or 1 GB per day.
Compare by high-speed data amount, not just “unlimited.”
2. Speed and network
- 4G LTE vs 5G support.
- Speed cap: e.g. “max 5 Mbps.”
- Throttling: Speed after high-speed allowance is used.
If you plan video/video calls, check high-speed allowance and any cap.
3. Supported countries and start condition
- Confirm your destination is in the supported country list.
- Start condition: At purchase, at install, or when you first connect locally.
4. Reinstall and tethering
- Many travel eSIMs are one-time install; check reinstall policy.
- Tethering: Allowed or not, and any limits.
